Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 25, 2026

Nyocte ("we", "our", or "us") respects your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you use our mobile application and services.

Cookies and advertising

On the marketing website, we use cookies and similar technologies. Necessary cookies make the site work, including remembering your language and cookie choices. If you allow analytics cookies, we measure how the site is used. If you allow advertising cookies, Google Ads may measure conversions from our ads and personalize ads.

Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland are asked before analytics or advertising cookies are used. You can change this at any time with Cookie settings in the footer. Google Consent Mode is used so ads measurement can continue in a privacy-preserving way when those cookies are declined.

Messages and calls

Direct messages and group chats are end-to-end encrypted with the Signal Protocol. Messages are encrypted on your device, and only the people in the conversation can read them. Our servers store and deliver encrypted data that we cannot read. Voice and video calls travel over encrypted connections.

Public content is not end-to-end encrypted: Town Square posts and comments, live broadcasts, podcasts, Spaces and their chat, and meeting recordings are stored on our servers so they can be shown to the people they are shared with.

Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly: name, email, phone number, and group membership data. We also collect usage data to improve our services.

  • Account: your name, phone number, optional email address, profile photo and the groups you belong to.
  • Content you share: posts, comments, photos, videos, voice notes, live broadcasts, podcasts and files. Public Town Square content can be seen by anyone on Nyocte, and by search engines only if you turn on "Show my posts in Google".
  • Contacts, if you allow it: the phone numbers in your address book are sent to Nyocte to find which of your contacts already use Nyocte. We keep only the matches, not the numbers.
  • Location, if you allow it: only when you choose to share your location in a chat.
  • Payments: payments to your groups are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
  • Device and diagnostics: device type, app version, notification tokens, crash reports and performance data, used to deliver notifications and fix problems.

When you use Nyocte, we also collect device and network information, including your IP address and the approximate location (city and region) derived from it, to secure your account and understand where our community is. We look this up on our own servers, and other members never see it.

Group officers can add people to their group's member list before those people join Nyocte, using a name, phone number and, optionally, a role. Nyocte staff may do this for a group only when its officers ask us in writing. We use that phone number only to ask the person, when they sign in to Nyocte with it, whether they want to join that group, and, if they already use Nyocte, to send them one notification about it. Nobody is added to a group without saying yes. We don't text or call listed numbers. Officers see whether each listed person has joined or has said the number isn't theirs, but not whether a number has a Nyocte account. Invitations nobody answers stop after 180 days and are deleted 30 days later. Anyone can ask the group's officers or [email protected] to remove their number.

How We Use Your Information

Your information is used to provide and improve our services, manage your account, facilitate group communications, and send important updates about your groups.

Services that process data for us

We share personal data only with services that help us run Nyocte, under agreements that require them to protect it at least as well as we do. We do not sell your personal data.

  • Hetzner, which hosts our servers.
  • Cloudflare, for content delivery and file storage.
  • Stripe, for payment processing.
  • Twilio and Nexici, to send sign-in codes by SMS or WhatsApp.
  • Google Firebase, for push notifications, crash reports and app integrity checks. Apple delivers notifications to iPhones.
  • Tenor (Google), when you search for a GIF.
  • OpenAI, to transcribe voice notes and meeting recordings and to draft meeting recaps, only when you ask.
  • Google Cloud Translation, to translate messages and posts when you ask, and to translate public Town Square posts between English, French and Arabic.

Transcription, translation and AI

Transcription, translation and meeting recaps are optional. The first time you use one, the app tells you which provider receives the content and asks for your permission. When you transcribe or translate an encrypted message, your device decrypts it and sends only that item, only for that request. You can withdraw permission at any time in Settings > Privacy & Security > Third-party AI. We do not use your content to train AI models.

Sponsored content

Nyocte may show clearly labeled sponsored content in some parts of the app. It is chosen using only your country and age range, never your messages, and you can see why you were shown it and report it. We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites. The iPhone app currently shows no sponsored content.

How long we keep data

We keep your account data while your account exists. When you delete your account in the app (Settings > Privacy & Security > Delete Account), you are signed out on every device and your account is scheduled for deletion. After a 30-day grace period, your personal data is deleted or anonymized.

Your choices and rights

You can update your profile at any time, turn off contact matching and location access in your phone's settings, withdraw AI permissions in the app, and delete your account in the app. You can also ask us for a copy of your data, or to correct or delete it, by writing to [email protected].

Children

Nyocte is not for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them.

Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data. All data is encrypted in transit and at rest.
