What it is
What is a equb?
Also known as: iqub, ekub, ዕቁብ
An equb (ዕቁብ, also iqub) is the rotating savings association of Ethiopia and Eritrea, common in Addis Ababa, Asmara, and among the diaspora in the United States, Europe, and the Gulf. Members contribute a fixed amount weekly or monthly, and the pot goes to the member whose name is drawn, or to the next in an agreed order. A dagna (judge) and a secretary usually run it.
The equb's record is a ledger held by the secretary. Nyocte gives every member the same record, keeps the draw and payout history, and adds meetings and votes for the group's decisions, in Amharic or English.

Is Nyocte free for a equb?
Yes. The app is free for every group, with no member limit and no premium tier. Payment processing, where your group chooses to use it, is handled by a payment provider and can carry a fee. Record-keeping, meetings, votes, and chat cost nothing.
Does Nyocte hold the group's money?
No. Nyocte keeps the record. Contributions can still be collected the way your equb already collects them: cash at the meeting, bank transfer, or mobile money. Where in-app payments are available, they are processed by a licensed payment provider and Nyocte does not hold funds.
Is the app available in Amharic?
Yes. Nyocte's app includes Amharic and Tigrinya, and each member chooses their own language.
Can diaspora members and members at home share one equb?
Yes. Members join from any country and follow the same record in the group's currency.
