What it is
What is a hagbad?
Also known as: ayuuto, shalongo, hagbad
Hagbad (also ayuuto or shalongo) is the rotating savings circle of Somali communities in Somalia, Kenya, Ethiopia, and the diaspora in Minneapolis, London, Toronto, and beyond. Members contribute a fixed amount each month, and the total goes to one member per round in an agreed order.
Hagbad is run by a trusted organizer who keeps the list and collects the money. Nyocte gives every member the same record, keeps the order and the payout history, and adds a place to decide together, in Somali or English.

Is Nyocte free for a hagbad?
Yes. The app is free for every group, with no member limit and no premium tier. Payment processing, where your group chooses to use it, is handled by a payment provider and can carry a fee. Record-keeping, meetings, votes, and chat cost nothing.
Does Nyocte hold the group's money?
No. Nyocte keeps the record. Contributions can still be collected the way your hagbad already collects them: cash at the meeting, bank transfer, or mobile money. Where in-app payments are available, they are processed by a licensed payment provider and Nyocte does not hold funds.
Is the app available in Somali?
Yes. Nyocte's app includes Somali, and each member chooses their own language.
Can members in different countries share one hagbad?
Yes. Members join from anywhere and follow the same record in the group's currency.
