What end-to-end encryption means in plain words

When a message is end-to-end encrypted, it is scrambled on the sender's phone and unscrambled only on the recipients' phones. The server that carries it, and the company that runs the server, see only the scrambled version. That is the difference between a letter in a sealed envelope and a postcard.

Why it matters for a community, not just an individual

A community group talks about members' health, money, family situations, disputes, and sometimes politics. In many places, that information in the wrong hands costs people their jobs, their safety, or their standing. A group deserves the same envelope a private conversation gets.

What Nyocte encrypts end to end

Direct messages and group conversations, including voice notes and shared media, are end-to-end encrypted between members' devices. Calls are encrypted in transit. When you link a browser to your account, your phone shares the keys with that browser, not with Nyocte.

What Nyocte does not encrypt end to end, and why

Group records such as contribution ledgers, minutes, votes, and documents are stored encrypted in transit and at rest, and access is controlled by roles. They are not end-to-end encrypted because the group needs to export them, audit them, and hand them to the next treasurer. A record that only one phone could read would not be a record.

What you should still do

  • Turn on the app lock on your phone.
  • Give roles carefully. Encryption protects messages from outsiders; roles protect the record from mistakes.
  • Keep your recovery key for message history somewhere safe if you enable history backup.
  • Remove members who leave the group, so they stop receiving new messages.

The commitment

Your group's conversations belong to your group. Your group's records belong to your group. Nyocte's job is to carry them, keep them safe, and give them back to you whenever you ask.

आम सवाल

Can Nyocte read my group's messages?

No. Direct and group conversations are end-to-end encrypted: messages are encrypted on your device and can only be read on your members' devices.

Are my group's financial records encrypted too?

Group records such as contributions and minutes are stored encrypted in transit and at rest and are visible only to members with the right role. They are not end-to-end encrypted, because the group needs to be able to export and audit them.

Does Nyocte sell data or show ads in my conversations?

No. Nyocte does not sell member data and does not place ads in conversations.
